In Concert

The guitarist plays, softly at first and then with swells that remind me of the groans of the Spirit when words escape us and all we can do is cry out to God in joy or grief or pain. Using all he has been given, he melds the steel strings-plastic pick-wooden body with his hands; the Holy Spirit and the secular make something sacred.

The instrument blends perfectly with the piano which sometimes sounds like an angel’s wings caressing the earth, so skillful are her fingers across the keys. She helps set the stage for places-spaces-pauses to receive God’s message.

Voices, all ranges and consistencies of head and chest reverberating into microphones, give words to moments-and-meditations, words to prayer-and-petitions, words to The Word. We identify with a tone, apart. We join in the music.

The “tss-tss-tss” of a high hat symbol counts time like the ticking of a second hand as we all march toward Christ’s second coming and Judgment Day. The drummer keeps everyone in unison with the beat.

What would happen if every single member of the Body of Christ were in concert in harmony? What if we were all in tune with one another like this?
The Movement of Christ would be powerful and unstoppable,
the Spirit unquenchable;
The Gospel of Christ would be presented and irresistible.
Our voices would join in Unison with His Only Son.
Captives could find Truth. Prisoners could find Freedom.
I want to be what Oswald Chambers calls “A Spiritually Vigorous Saint.” My aim is to achieve the realization of Jesus Christ in every set of circumstances in all that I do, as an overflow of my heart’s desire to serve my King. That’s spiritual harmony. That’s seeing Jesus in Everything.

God, help me to be in perfect harmony.

With You. With Your people. With Your Church.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one who is speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:10-11
